Moms SURF for FREE for Mother’s Day

Ryan Waldron • 14 de agosto de 2019

Everyday should be Mother’s Day. As a father of twins that witness first-hand the genuine love and selflessness between my wife and children, 1 day a year to acknowledge a mother’s tireless job seems too little. For our friends in North America, Mother’s Day falls on the second Sunday of May. Here in Costa Rica, Mother’s day is celebrated on the same day every year, August 15th.

To celebrate the day, we asked some of our surf instructors to commemorate their mothers with some kind words. Here’s what they had to say:

Randall (Fish) – My mother has always been by my side and encouraged me when I was young that I could achieve anything that I wanted in life.

Xiquiu – My mother means everything to me. My father taught me that before everything, comes my mother. That I should always think of her in everything I do. As for surfing, she would always drive 2.5 hours to my favorite beaches 3 times a week when we lived in Venezuela and she would wait for me to surf for 3 hours and then drive back home.

J Luis – My mother, with her love and patience, allowed me to thrive as a child. I try to transmit this same energy to my surf students as they are learning surfing.

Mao floating around

Mao – My mom bought me my first surfboard even though she was scared of me surfing. I’ll always be grateful for that.

You don’t paddle out at Ollie’s Point because it’s convenient. You go because when it’s on, it feels like Costa Rica handed you a fast, clean runway and said, “Go.” The catch is that Ollie’s is not a “just show up” wave. It’s a mission – tides, swell direction, wind, boat timing, and a lineup […] The post Ollie’s Point Guided Surf Tour: What to Expect appeared first on Witch's Rock Surf Camp.

The moment that changes everything usually isn’t the first pop-up. It’s the second one – when your kid paddles back out smiling, you’re not checking the clock, and nobody’s hungry, sunburned, or overwhelmed. You don’t fly to Costa Rica for “pretty good” waves. If you’re already comfortable in solid surf, the real win is efficiency: paddling out at the right break, at the right tide, with the right board under your feet – and not wasting a single prime window because a road washed out, the wind switched, […] The post Advanced Surf Tours in Costa Rica That Deliver appeared first on Witch's Rock Surf Camp.

You know the feeling – you’re paddling out confidently, catching plenty of waves, and you can even make sections… but your surfing still looks nothing like it feels. In your head, you’re carving. On the wave, you’re kind of surviving. That’s the intermediate plateau, and it’s exactly why intermediate surf coaching with video analysis is […] The post Video Surf Coaching for Intermediates That Works appeared first on Witch's Rock Surf Camp.
