The beginner walks right out to the sand with a coach and two other students.
The teenager goes with the intermediate group. Five of them and a coach, up the coast to a different break.
The other two don't have to go anywhere unless they feel like it.

Or town, because it's right there.
Or a zipline, a horseback ride, a fishing boat.
Everyone's back at the same table for sunset, with a different story about their day.

We had a great time a witch's rock surf camp this week. We came as a family and two of us had Santi for intermediate and the other two had Oscar for beginner. They were both phenomenal coaches. Santi gave us a lot of pointers while we were in the water helping us adjust our technique in real time and he was super nice and funny. Oscar was super chill, patient, and funny, at one point saying "you are here to learn and have fun" after one of us made a mistake while surfing.
Aside from the surfing WRSC is the best place to relax and unwind. We love all the staff and we always make friends with the other guests. We can't wait for our next trip!!

Kids Learn With Kids. Adults Learn With Adults.
Every coach is ISA certified and lifeguard certified, and they're in the water with the group the whole session.
The ratios don't move. Three students to one coach for beginners. Five to one for everyone else.
We teach kids from ages four and up, though we'd tell you to wait if your kid isn't already comfortable in the water.
Joe helped start the Tamarindo lifeguard program and ran it for close to ten years, so safety isn’t an afterthought.
We'll usually put kids with kids and adults with adults. Separate coaches, but close enough to know they're fin. A parent trying to learn while watching their kid does neither one well.
There's A Lot To Do Here
That Isn't Surfing.
Two or three afternoons a week the group heads down the coast to a beach most people don't know about. No surf, no lesson, and anyone on the reservation can come whether they surf or not.

What A Family Of Four Pays. Two Surfing, Two Not.
One week, one Courtyard room, one bill.
Two surfers: $4,200
Two companions at $50 a night: $700
Total: $4,900
That's $175 per person per day. It covers the room, the coaching, the boards, breakfast every morning, yoga, the beach tours, the pool, and the airport run on Saturday.
No rental car, no lessons booked separately, no cooking.
Things To
Consider.
Saturday is the free day. Airport pickup from Liberia is free on Saturdays. Any other day it's $150 each way for the van, whether that's one person or six. About an hour and a half each way.
Somebody in the group needs to be surfing. That's what gets you a room at the beachfront camp. After that we're flexible about who does what. If nobody's surfing, Pueblo Dorado is a few minutes' walk up the street and you still get the pool, the beach chairs and the showers at the camp.
Beginners stay in Tamarindo. Intermediates and advanced take vans and boats to other breaks. So on those mornings a beginner kid and an intermediate teenager aren't in the same place.
Beach tours run in the afternoons, a couple of times a week.
Anyone on the reservation can go, surfer or not.
The Witch's Rock boat runs on a weekday. Five nights or more gets you on it, but it never goes Saturday and rarely Sunday. If your stay lands on a weekend, ask before you book.
Yoga is included for everyone.
Monday, Wednesday and Friday, whether you surf or not.
Lunch, dinner and drinks are on you.
Four places to eat on the property, and town is a ten-minute walk.
The rooms are simple. Clean, air conditioned, fast Wi-Fi, hot water. Not a luxury resort. What you're paying for is where they are. No rental car. No hauling wet boards into a trunk. No cooking. Everything inside one footprint.
