Learning to Surf in Your 40s: Todd Decker’s Journey at Witch’s Rock Surf Camp

Daniela Ortiz • 19 de agosto de 2024

Have you ever thought about surfing but then convinced yourself it might be too late to start? Well, Todd Decker, a longtime guest and self-proclaimed “40-something middle-aged dude” (his words, not mine!), took the plunge and learned to surf at Witch’s Rock Surf Camp back in July 2012. He’s been returning every July since, missing only once in 2020 due to border closures.

Why Learning to Surf in Your 40s (or Anytime) Isn’t Crazy

There’s a common misconception that surfing is only for certain age groups, but Todd’s story shows that anyone can pick it up. While surfing can be challenging and the ocean might seem intimidating, it’s never too late or too early to start. At Witch’s Rock Surf Camp, you’ll have the support you need every step of the way and we want to make sure everyone feels welcome. As Todd says in his video, he’s seen people from 7 to 70 years old hitting the waves. The ocean welcomes you with open arms, and so do we!

The Penthouse Room: Todd’s Favorite Spot

Todd also shares why he loves staying in the Penthouse room. With more amenities, making it easy to whip up a quick meal, to the deck with stunning views, it’s the perfect spot for those who want a bit of extra comfort during their stay. Plus, it’s a great place to hang out with friends, if you bring them with you or make new ones here, like Todd has over the years.

You don’t paddle out at Ollie’s Point because it’s convenient. You go because when it’s on, it feels like Costa Rica handed you a fast, clean runway and said, “Go.” The catch is that Ollie’s is not a “just show up” wave. It’s a mission – tides, swell direction, wind, boat timing, and a lineup […] The post Ollie’s Point Guided Surf Tour: What to Expect appeared first on Witch's Rock Surf Camp.
